Sword Drill — by Don Babcock

About the App

Sword Drill is a fast, focused Bible reading app. Select a book, enter a chapter or verse, pick a translation, and the passage loads instantly from Bible Gateway — with ads and clutter stripped away automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions

The app says "No internet connection"

Sword Drill requires an active internet connection to load passages from Bible Gateway. Check that Wi-Fi or cellular data is enabled and try again.

How do I change the Bible translation?

Tap the Settings gear icon on the book list screen. You can customize the three translation buttons by entering any version abbreviation supported by Bible Gateway (e.g. ESV, NIV, NKJV, NASB).

Where are my recent passages?

After selecting a book, the five most recently viewed passages appear as quick-access buttons on the chapter entry screen. These are stored locally on your device.

How do I keep the screen from dimming while I read?

On any book's chapter entry screen, toggle "Keep Screen Awake" to prevent your device from sleeping while you read a passage.

Does the app work with VoiceOver?

Yes. Sword Drill includes full VoiceOver support with descriptive labels, hints, and heading navigation throughout the app. Passage load completion and connectivity changes are announced automatically.

A passage isn't loading or looks wrong

Sword Drill filters out ads and non-passage content from Bible Gateway pages. If a passage doesn't display correctly, it may be due to a change on Bible Gateway's side. Please contact us so we can investigate.
